The Best way to learn more about Vancouver, BC

Publié le par Hello Stéphanie

Well, it has been a nice, quiet week-end... It started on friday eve. I fell liking staying at home, alone. Actually, i've been feeling like that almost since i've been back from New York. Europ and then NY, a lot of people, all the time... I need my time alone and i can't stop enjoying it, and needing for more and more time for myself.
So i had a nice friday night. After a intensive work out at the gym, i decided i deserved a cookie dough ice-cream. Mmmm yummie. And a "good" movie, Dancing Machine with Alain Delon and Patrick Dupont. Well, the movie is not a master piece, but for a dancer as i am, it was enough to make my night...
Saturday was fresh but sunny... i stayed at Benny's for more than 3 hours, with coffee and Lattee and i wrote. I fell like a cliche, since probably 79% of the customers were focused on their Mac Book. So was i. But i had so much fun writing my Brooklyn Story.
I went back home in the middle of the afternoon, layed down in the couch with 2 liters of Mariage Frere tea and few magazine, and that was it... Sunday was sunny as well, and i decided to keep going with my writing. I met Raphael for a movie. It's the International Film Festival in Vancouver. We wanted to see JCVD, about Van Damme, but it was sold out way too early :s

Anyway, this morning, while i was having my breakfast, i was reading the last week Georgia Straight. GS is THE free newspaper to get every week if you want to hang out in the city and have a bit of culture.
Once a year, they have a special edition, "The Best of". It's just hilarious... Of course, it's funnier if you live here. Therefore, it might help you to know a little bit more of our lay-back way of life...
I couldn't help but sharing with few great lines...
My favorite one, definitely :

- Best Reasons to SUPPORT a code of SILENCE on the bus :
"People who yell "Thank You" at the top of their lungs as they exit through the back door. People who yell "Back door" when the back door doesnt open, usually because they've pushed it too early. Bus drivers who think they stand-ip comics. Music coming from headphones that you can hear 3 meters away over traffic and engine noise. People who start personal conversations with unwitting fellow passangers. People who talk loudly on their cellphones about stuff that's so boring it isn't even worth eavesdropping on".

- Best reason why Vancouver does NOT produce CHAMPION SPEED WALKERS :
(...) Have you noticed that we have, possibly, the wolrd's SLOWEST-MOVING pedestrians ? If you clock, say, people crossing Burrard Street at Robson -ground zero for pedestrian inertia- you could read War and Peace before the last dawdling pedestrians grow beards, and conceive and give birth to children crossing Burrard. This is beyond a chilled-out WEST COAST thing : this is obliviousness to, uh, everything, including the fact that the light changed an hour ago.

And way less funny :

- The Best question to ask all candidates in the next provincial election :
" BC has the HIGHEST rate of child poverty in CANADA. It also has the greatest discrepancy between rich and poor, not to mention a degree of corporate MEDIA MONOPOLIZATION that makes Berlusconi's Italy look like the Land of Free. What are you going to rectify these social inequities ??"

Well, i'm not done with that reading yet but i believe i will have a lot fo fun. When i think that i've been highly criticized for writing the same kind of caricatural description in my column... Pfffff.

Dancing machine c'est pas ce film où une nana (celle de sous le soleil?) s'escrime sur Alain Delon qui reste sans réaction? (ce qui fait toujours plaisir au passage...)
